Same Old Blues
Freddie King
We have some real-deal old-school blues here. Recorded in 1971.
This song is in 6/8, notice that we have two strong beats per bar.
We have no less than 6 different Dominant 7th chords in this progression! Notice how they lead into the next chord.
Despite so much non-diatonic movement the whole progression feels quite smooth, doesn't it?
We got a chance to play an augmented chord at the end of the progression there. It's substituting for an A7.
If you're wondering how to go about playing lead over this, it's simple. While you absolutely can follow the chord changes, the blues approach is just to stick to the D Blues Pentatonic the whole time.
