Solfege might be an unfamiliar word, but the concept is well known. Let's examine how it's used.
Solfege is a method of teaching the Major Scale, in which a syllable is attached to each note.
For a lot of people, reading "Do - Re - Mi - Fa - So - La - Ti - Do" automatically produces a series of notes to go along with it! If you're one of those people, you probably learned this system as a kid, without knowing fully what it was for.
This is great, because it means you already have an intuitive grasp of how the Major Scale should sound. It will also help you to recognize intervals, when the time comes!
Solfege covers the 7 notes of the Major Scale, ending by repeating "Do", which is the root note an octave above where we started.
Use your Solfege, if you find it helpful, for working with the Major Scale.
