Here is one way to play the Minor Pentatonic scale. You may hear this scale shape described as Form 1. We will look into this later.
In essence, the Minor Pentatonic scale is the Minor Scale, with the 2nd and 6th notes removed.
While the Major and Minor scales are very handy for songwriting, the Minor Pentatonic is much more focused on giving you a strong set of notes for improvising and riffing over a chord progression in a minor key.
By the way, Pentatonic means five notes. Counting from the bottom, you have a root plus four other notes before returning to the root. Makes sense.
