Arpeggios are a way of playing a chord a single note at a time. Typically, on guitar, we'll look at arpeggios playing as many octaves of the notes as possible while staying in one position on the fretboard.
This is a hugely useful tool for guitarists! Getting comfortable with your arpeggios will deepen your understand of the intervals at play within a chord, offer ways to play inversions of chords, and give you a massive new avenue to explore while improvising.
You will want to learn and explore within arpeggios the same way we do with scales. In essence, they can be thought of as scales built off the notes that make up any given chord. In that way, they're guaranteed to sound good over the appropriate chord!
This will open the door for you to begin changing your scale/arpeggio on the fly as chords change within a song, as opposed to being glued to one scale for the entire section. Click HERE to get started with our first set, the C Shape Arpeggios!
